Eng Yi is developing a practice covering all areas of the firm’s work, including in Commercial and Corporate Litigation, Construction & Infrastructure Dispute, Commercial Arbitration as well as in Media Law.

Eng Yi read law at the National University of Malaysia. He was called to the Malaysian Bar in 2021. Eng Yi is presently involved in several commercial disputes, where he is led by Rishwant Singh and Aniz Ahmad Amirudin.

  • Chan T’shiao Li & Anor v Malcom Fernandez & Ors (Low Beng Choo, proposed intervener) [2024] MLJU 218 – This is a high-value probate dispute wherein the firm acts for the executors of the estate. In this interlocutory decision, the High Court allowed the joinder of a witness to the contested will as a co-defendant (led by Tan Sri Dato’ Cecil Abraham and Rishwant Singh).
  • Warisan Pinang Sdn Bhd & Ors v Carolyn Khor Tsai Chen [2023] MLJU 1753 – This a defamation claim where the firm successfully acted for the claimant in obtaining an award of damages for libelous statements made by the defendant pertaining to the award of a contract for the construction of army barracks (led by Rishwant Singh).
  • Sotella Fund Pte Ltd v Lextrend Sdn Bhd & Ors [2023] MLJU 2299 – This is a dispute wherein the firm acts for the Sotella Fund Pte Ltd in successfully opposing an application to stay arbitration proceedings by reference to Section 10 of the Arbitration Act 2005 given that the defendants were held to have taken steps in the proceedings by filing a striking out application (led by Dato’ Sunil Abraham).
  • Conweld Engineering Sdn Bhd & Ors v Goh Swee Boh @ Goh Cheng Kin & Anor [2022] 6 MLJ 810 – This is a dispute wherein the Court of Appeal dismissed the appellant’s claim and thereby recognising that a claim predicated on a cause of action for the tort of abuse of process is valid as a matter of law in Malaysia (led by Rishwant Singh).
  • China Construction Yangtze River (M) Sdn Bhd v Gold Mart Sdn Bhd [2022] MLJU 1789 – This dispute concerned an application to set aside an adjudication award granted notionally in favour of China Construction Yangtze River (M) Sdn Bhd wherein the firm represented Gold Mart Sdn Bhd. China Construction Yangtze River (M) Sdn Bhd nevertheless sought to set aside the adjudication. The High Court dismissed the arguments sought to be advanced by China Construction Yangtze River (M) Sdn Bhd under Section 15 of the Construction Industry & Payment Act 2012 premised principally on the grounds of breach of natural justice (led by Tan Sri Dato’ Cecil Abraham and Aniz Ahmad Amirudin).
  • Datin Dr Nik Sarina Luqman Hashim v Dato’ Mohamed Moiz & Ors – This is a club law dispute pertaining to the affairs of the Selangor Polo Club where the firm acts for several members of the committee (led by Rishwant Singh).
  • Song Pang Seng Construction Sdn Bhd v Sri Melinger Sdn Bhd – This is a construction dispute concerning a mixed development known as Plaza Medan Purta in the State of Selangor Darul Ehsan (led by Aniz Ahmad Amirudin).
  • China Construction Yangtze River (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd v Gold Mart Sdn Bhd – This is a construction dispute involving pending adjudication claims as well as an arbitration, in relation to the Harbour City project which has a total contract value of RM818.2 million in the State of Melaka (led by Tan Sri Dato’ Cecil Abraham and Aniz Ahmad Amirudin).
  • Expro Marine Sdn Bhd v Amalgamated Plant Engineering Sdn Bhd – This is an oil and gas dispute involving an application for interim relief in aid of arbitration pursuant to Section 11 of the Arbitration Act 2005 filed by Expro Marine Sdn Bhd for prohibitory orders to restrain the termination of the Master Agreement between the two parties, where the firm acts for Amalgamated Plant Engineering Sdn Bhd. The application for interim relief in aid of arbitration was dismissed by the High Court. The subsequent decision of the Court of Appeal to reverse the decision of the High Court was ultimately set aside by the Federal Court such that the decision of the High Court was reinstated.
